Wow... that was my first reaction after watching this trailer.
I have been a fan of Pokemon since Pokemon Diamond in 2006, and it has always had a special place in my heart. When this movie was announced I was intrigued but not excited due to the previous failures of video game movies. However after seeing this trailer it has become one of my most anticipated movies for next year. Everything about it looks perfect. The Pokemon. The world. The environment. The humour.
There are so many references in this trailer it is unreal. This is everything I have been wanting in a movie for so long. Ryan Reynolds voice is spot on as well. These are some of my favourite shots from the trailer:
Pikachu is one of the main reasons why Pokemon is as big of a phenomenon as it is. Here he looks so fluffy and cute as well and being cool and funny. He appeals to all ages and all genders. His CGI looks great and his belly is even a lighter shade of yellow which is a homage to the original design which has sadly been lost in recent years. The inclusion of his original 'Pika Pika' is a great addition as well.
Bulbasaur has always been the cutest Kanto starter for me and seeing a group of them marching down a river in a line is fantastic. This is probably my favourite scene from the trailer solely because of how it shows Pokemon in the wild and the fact it has Bulbasaur in it. There are also some floating Morelulls, which are the mushroom creatures.
Anyone whose watching the Indigo league anime knows who this is. This is Jigglypuff. Not just any Jigglypuff though. As you can tell from its right hand it is the Jigglypuff. It has clearly made this fellow fall asleep due to its singing and is about to draw on his face. This is a great addition for long term fans of the series.
Greninja has risen to become one of the most popular Pokemon since its reveal back in 2014, so there is no surprise that it will be included in this movie. Based on the trailer it is going to be one of the villains in the film with fits as it is part dark type (also known as evil in Japan.)
I despise this Pokemon. It looks creepy and terrifying, always has, always will. The creators of the movie know that though and have played on that fact extremely well. It's a Pokemon based on mimes and it communicates through mimes, very well done by the animators here.
Psyduck and his companion look to play a major role along side Justice Smith's character, which is not a surprise seeing its popularity due to the anime. If this movie does well who knows how many spin-offs could be spawned from it. We might actually get a movie about being a trainer which has been asked for, for many many years.
Thank you so much for reading this reaction review of the new Detective Pikachu trailer. We hope you enjoyed it and come back again soon! Pika- Pika!
