Doctor Who- at the BBC Showcase Event held in Liverpool- have revealed the new logo and teaser artwork for the upcoming series 11, created by Chris Chibnall and featuring Jodie Whittaker as the 13th Doctor who was also present at the event
The striking logo is set against an evening sky in a new image, with Whittaker's Doctor appearing in silhouette. Reminding us of the previous images released of the 13th Doctor to accompany her outfit release, this theme of sunrise/sunset is again prevalent here- along with the imagery of nature and mountains, present since her announcement video set in a forest.
The series also has an alternative, smaller insignia perfect for social media and marketing uses which simply reads 'WHO', here's to hoping that this term becomes more widely recognised in the 'Doctor Who' community and beyond.
For us at A Space Oddity, this came as more of a surprise as it goes against the look of what we've previously seen in publicity material. The calm, pastel tones of sunsets are obliterated by hard rocky embers floating in space surrounding the 'WHO' insignia that is bound to become familiar with fans and non-fans alike.
Along with this insignia, we were teased a short VFX clip of the TARDIS travelling through space-time into the brand new logo- accompanied by a haunting beat of the Doctor Who theme. Sadly, this is NOT the new theme for the series, as announced by the BBC and that this is an isolated piece of music used especially for the animation, created by Matthew Herbert.
The updated logo and insignia have been produced by creative agency Little Hawk, working closely with new Doctor Who showrunner Chris Chibnall and executive producer Matt Strevens.
The teaser is found below:
Looking at the logo more closely, we can see two lines protruding from the 'D' of 'Doctor' and 'O' of the 'Who' conveying the image of a time-line perhaps. This links to the theory that Series 11 will be more time travel heavy in comparison to space travel. The rocks surrounding the logo give serious 7th Doctor vibes from his incredibly VFX heavy title sequence. And the colour scheme give a great deal of Christopher Eccleston/David Tennant era logo vibes.
Now we put it to you! What do you think to the logo, do you love it? Do you hate it? What do you think to this brand new era for the show, let us know down below! Comment, like and share this post with all your Whovian friends! We cannot wait for Series 11, but only time will tell if it's worth waiting for...
