As we move past the halfway mark of the series, it still feels as if we've got a lot to cover and little has really happened. Yes we had the Battle for Winterfell last episode which opened and closed the story on the White Walkers in a mere 80 minutes, but now we face the biggest threat: Cersei, Euron and the Golden Company's fleet.
This episode begun a little too slow for the 4th episode of a 6 episode series, a bit like Episode 2 which focussed more on character arcs rather than plot progression. We do tie up a few story arcs, including the Jaime and Brienne storyline which takes a few twists and turns this episode, along with resolutions for Grey Worm and Missandei among others. However this episode takes way too long to discuss the plans to take Kings Landing and 'rip out' Cersei.
However when this episode does get going, it really does get going, at around the 50 minute mark, the episode does take a shift in tone giving us a captivating fight between Euron's fleet and the North as they sail towards Dragonstone. Without spoiling the episode, we get some serious game-changing moments that will likely give us (hopefully) some of the best moments of the show in the penultimate episode next week. Could we see Danaeres turn into the mad queen? WIll she do whatever it takes to get to Cersei and take the throne for herself?
The episode closes with our protagonists facing off against Cersei and as we discover how truly monstrous she can be, and it seems as if her brother (we won't spoil which one) could also be looking to become 'hateful' once again. Overall this episode takes a long time to find its footing, a bit too long that gives us a rather swift ending to the episode, but it certainly has its good moments and personally beats the episode prior (an episode that on rewatch shows some considerable flaws).
Game of Thrones, you really need to get a move on, we have 2 episodes left and so much left to cover, Season 8 still needs to deliver and now's your time.
