With a new look, is a new format to the Weekly Oddity here on A Space Oddity. Based upon what our readers have told us, 7 articles is rather a lot, so we're bringing it down to 3 articles featuring this weeks biggest stories- this week it includes Spiderman Homecoming 2, DC's Shazam! and Solo: A Star Wars' Story's Opening Weekend. Read on to find out more!
Spiderman Homecoming 2 will reprise Michael Keaton's The Vulture.
Actor Michael Keaton is set to return as Adrian Toomes aka. The Vulture in the currently untitled Spider-Man: Homecoming 2. The Spider-Man sequel will be the first Phase 4 Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, following the release of next year's untitled Avengers: Infinity War followup (known for now as Avengers 4). It will also be the last film on Marvel Studios' official release slate for the next year, now that the studio has confirmed it won't be announcing its Phase 4 lineup until the fourth Avengers movie hits theaters.
According to Variety, Keaton will reprise his Homecoming role as The Vulture in next year's sequel. The news was revealed as part of Variety's larger report about Jake Gyllenhaal closing a deal to join the Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 cast, in a role believed to be that of the main villain, Mysterio. Details beyond that are being kept under wraps for now, including whether Keaton's Vulture will be Team Mysterio or Team Spider-Man in the film.
First (Official) look at Zachary Levi as Shazam!
Zachary Levi, actor portraying the DCEU's interpretation of Shazam aka Billy Batson, posted a photo of himself and what looks like an ad for Shazam! on Instagram today, which gives fans their first real look at David F. Sandberg's 2019 film, Shazam!. While he's since deleted the post, you can still check out the image above.
Based on this "first look" as well as what has been leaked in set photos so far, Zachary Levi's Shazam costume clearly takes inspiration from WB's Justice League: War animated movie (which is based on the Justice League: Origin comic book story), just as Sandberg said it would. Off the bat, the most noticeable similarity is the lightning bolt on Levi's chest; its shape and color heavily resembles the more recent incarnations of the character, just like Shazam's cape.
Now that the first look at Shazam! is out, fans should expect to see an official image sooner rather than later and then possibly a teaser trailer later this summer- something that we are very intrigued to see...
Solo: A Star Wars Story's Memorial Weekend Highest in 4 Years.
Solo: A Star Wars Story had the biggest Memorial Holiday weekend box office opening since 2014, despite coming in below expectations. The Star Wars anthology film, which explores the backstory and origins of our favourite smuggler Han Solo, endured a mid-production wobbly change in directors and extended principal photography before making it to the silver screen Despite that, the movie was projected to set a Memorial Holiday weekend opening record during its four day debut around the world, in the last few weeks ahead of its release.
Ultimately, however, that didn't happen; Solo's three day domestic opening take of $84.7 million was considerably below that of the previous Star Wars anthology film, Rogue One (which opened with $155.1 million in December 2016). That further makes Solo's opening the smallest for a Star Wars movie released since Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012, after Rogue One and the last two mainline installments, The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi (both of which debuted with over $200 million domestically).
We will be reviewing Solo: A Star War Story, along with Deadpool 2 in the next fortnight.
However before we finish, we would like to present the brand new Marvel: Ant Man and the Wasp TV Spot that's been released in the last few minutes- check it out below!
