So we finally have it, the first trailer for the conclusion of the sequel trilogy of 'Star Wars'.
Click below to watch the official trailer:
We also got first looks at Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams), new concept art from Episode 9, John Boyega's Finn, Poe Dameron played by Oscar Isaac, a group shot between the aforementioned pair, Kylo Ren portrayed by Adam Driver, Jannha portrayed by Naomie Ackie, see below:
Now lets get down to business. We start off with Rey alone on a sand planet. This could either be two planets, if they wanted to go full circle and connect it too the whole franchise this planet will be Tatooine, however this could also be Rey's home planet Jakku which is where we started the journey with Rey in episode 7. We then start to hear a Tie Fighter off in the distance and it's revealed to be Kylo, it's going to be interesting to see how these two interact after what happened in 'The Last Jedi'. We then see Rey do an awesome flip over the tie fighter, it's great seeing Rey having the mobility of the prequel trilogy mixed in with the classic style of the originals, something which could really help her character become a fan favourite among fans.
We then see Kylo knock down what looks like a resistance soldier. There is also a stormtrooper in the background, which could imply that this will be a battle between the first order and the resistance, maybe the last battle? The trees in the background look similar to the trees in the forest where all the cast members are stood next to the Millennium Falcon in the photo above, this could possibly be the same planet.
We then switch to Finn and Poe standing around and Finn looks like he is holding Rey's staff. We also see them being chased on a ship, and it is revealed this is also a sand planet, which is probably the same one where Rey was facing Kylo earlier on in the trailer.
We get our first shot of Lando in the trailer, and he's piloting the Millennium Falcon. Here's hoping he claims it for his own after losing it all those years ago. He is also wearing what looks like the same outfit as Donald Glover's version of the character in 'Solo: A Star Wars Story' this could be used to further connect the two versions of the character.
We then get a lovely shot of Leia hugging Rey. We were hesitant how the footage of Carrie Fisher would look, however JJ. Abrams seems to have done a good job here as it looks like she was really there.
Our final shot of the trailer is the sequel trio: Rey, Poe and Finn along with C-3P0, Chewie, BB-8 and a new droid staring at what looks like a fallen ship or space station. There seems to be a disk at the front or back or the ship, depending on which way it is facing, which could be similar to the Death Star's weapon? Here's hoping we don't get a Death Star 3 or Starkiller base 2.
Finally we get a title reveal. We love this title here at ASO and think it's the perfect title for the last movie in the saga as it encompasses every episode not just episode 9. Throughout this trailer Luke Skywalker was narrating and his final words are 'no-one's ever really gone.' Could this suggest Luke never died in episode 8? Or maybe he will return as a force ghost? Could this also imply someone else will return such as Obi-Wan or Anakin? I guess we'll find out in December. We also hear Palpatine's laugh at the end, what this means could be anything. Maybe the Emperor never died and he will be the one returning, share your thoughts with us about this in the comments. We love this trailer and it has gotten us hyped for the movie. We hope you liked it too.
So that's it! Episode IX is 'The Rise of Skywalker'. Are you excited for the end of the saga? Let us know, you can get in touch with us via our insta (a_space_oddity_official) or on Facebook and just look for the logo. Thanks for reading!
